Whitehaven Festival
The seaport of Whitehaven plays annual host to the maritime festival, in commemoration of its importance in Britain's sea faring history and with its strong American links it can even boast George Washington's grandmother as one of its past residences.
The festive celebrations include a display from the Red Arrows, Tall Ships in the harbour which you are welcome to explore, a regatta, boat show, fun and food fair, music and Cumbrian Culture Festival and in the evening a spectacular firework display.
